I have subdivided properties, built several new properties and have also relocated a villa, so I have some degree of working with builders. They recently built a new property for me and was one of the best builder experiences I've had.

Their pricing was clear and complete, the invoices always matched contract values etc, so from a contract admin side things were very smooth and transparent. Of the most importance for me is being able to get hold of the builder when I call. Kere picked up the phone 99.9% of the time, and quickly returned calls when I had to leave messages.

The workmanship was great too - even a bit over and above in some areas.

"I retained Kere Brooks of Brooks Construction to undertake the repair and renovation of our property. We acquired the property in November 2011, in anticipation of moving to Christchurch in January 2012.

Significant works were needed to repair damage caused by the September 2010, and February and June 2011 earthquakes. These are detailed in an EQC report. In addition, we wanted to renovate parts of the property, especially two bathrooms, and a complete repaint of the house, inside and out. We wanted all of this to be complete by the time of our entry in January.

Kere was assigned to project manage all works and inputs, including engineering, floor work, plastering, tiling, plumbing, electrical and painting (among others). He performed that task with exemplary efficiency in particularly trying circumstances given the time of the year. In addition to achieving a fantastic result - we were more than satisfied in all respects with the work done - Kere removed all of the hassle usually associated with building work. We have renovated another home, at a smaller scale, with significantly more issues and delay. He also promptly responded to queries and was very pro-active in following up to make sure we were satisfied with responses and progress overall - including regular contact over the Christmas break.

Finally all quoted work came in under or on budget. Any material variations and additions were discussed in advance and approved before the cost was incurred.

"Brooks Construction were contracted to remove my earthquake damaged property and clear the site including foundations from 102 Hills Rd Shirley. The house was a 1 storey and approx 154m2 on a 456m2 section. Hills Road is pretty busy and I asked Brooks Construction to ensure the existing fences on the sides and back remained gaining access through the front fence and hedge. 

Brooks Construction were professional throughout the contracting process providing written quotes after the initial phone call and then we signed a Contract to demolish and remove the damaged dwelling. After I paid the deposit, Brooks Construction carried out the work promptly and left the site as per the contract agreement. 

I would have no hesitation in acting as a reference for Brooks Construction. They communicated well, used written contracts to ensure all parties understood the work plan and they completed the work within my expected timeframes. "Kere Brooks was employed by us to convert a garage that was dated pre 1950 into a living space for myself and Erin proprietors of Brighton By The Beach Guesthouse. The condition of the original structure was not good. It was a difficult task and took a lot of pre planning, time and patience. The garage was re cladded with weatherboard, 4 windows added, a concrete slab was poured, structural supports added, damp proofed, 3 doors hung, ceiling battened and insulated, walls were jib stopped and a shower framed out and added to the living area. All work followed the council consent specifications and was to NZ building code. We were very happy with Kere’s workmanship and ability to meet deadlines (which we found to be a problem with other builders) and are now enjoying our new home.

We would therefore wholeheartedly recommend Kere’s work to anyone seeking an honest able and reliable builder.”
